SHVC-F4 19 Jul. 1991 Super Famicon 8,800 yen + tax |
Should I explain about this? (^^;) Though this site treats as "a story," this is the 4th title of FINAL FANTASY series and the 1st title on Super Famicon. They say its ACTIVE TIME BATTLE system changed ideas about battles in RPGs. *Active Time Battle (ATB) : If you don't enter any command in a battle, the enemies attack you. In old series they attack after you finish commanding. |

In those days FF II and FF III weren't translated into English, so the title isn't "FF IV." Battles are easier then the original, and Mysidian wizards talk in the prologue. Because of its CHARMING English, this "FF2" gave you some wrong knowlage: in the original, KluYa didn't BEAR children! *laugh* And I heared "Houchou" (a kitchen knife) is "a spoon" in this ver. |
SHVC-FE 29 Oct. 1991 Super Famicon 9,000 yen + tax |
A RPG for biginners. This "EASY TYPE" was tuned to be easy, everone can enjoy playing. *ATTENTION / The story is perfectlly same as the normal "FINAL FANTASY IV." (From the front of the package) I think this is FF2 U.S. + additional development. But the SPOON is HOUCHOU, sorry! :-) |
SLPM 86028 21 Mar. 1997 PlayStation 4,800 yen + tax |
Except a dash function and 3D movies in the introduction and the ending, it's almost same as the original. Including the "255 Excaliburs," many secrets (bugs) were also reproducted. The "victory fanfale" starts a little later than the original, but you won't feel incongruity totaly. (though key-response bocomes slow sometime) The ending movie... I hoped to see Cecil fighting with (not 'against'!) Kain. (^^;) BGM in the movies are newly written by Mr. Uematsu. |
SLPS 01948 - 01950 11 Mar. 1999 PlayStation 6,800 yen + tax |
A package with FF IV, V, and VI Play Station ver. The 1st press had a limited ver which has a clock. (The limited ver was 8,800 yen + tax) I heared "FINAL FANTASY ANTHOLOGY," a package with FF V, VI and a music CD was sold in English-speaking area instead of this "COLLECTION." ($39.95?) Back on the Play Station ver, the loading graphics are 14 patterns: Cecil & Chocobo / Kain / Cid & Black Chocobo / Rosa / Tellah / Edward & flogs / Yang / Parom & Polom / Edge / Black Wizard / White Wizard & White Chocobo / Corio / Dwarf & a flog / a pig Have you ever seen them all? (I haven't yet. ^^;) |
SLUS-01360/01363 29 Jun. 2001 (USA-date) PlayStation $39.99 |
A package with FF IV and "CHRONO TRIGGER." The new translation fixed FF2 U.S. , I heared Golbez became to speak like a villain. And now you can see all text of the Mysidian legend. Though you still see "You Spoony Bard!," you must not say about it! The other changing is same as the Play Station ver. |
SWJ-SQRC09 29 Mar. 2002 WonderSwanColor 5,200 yen + tax |
I can say it's "reproducted 90%, remaked 10%." These are deffeent from the original :
WonderSwanColor is a portable hardware, so its sound isn't so nice. |
AGB P BZ4E 12 Dec. 2005 (USA-date) Game Boy Advance $29.99 + tax |
FF4 on GBA. Nintendo says it's repackaging (not remake) version, though, you see new features:

AGB-P-BZ4J(JPN) 15 Dec. 2005 Game Boy Advance 4,800 yen + tax |
Square Enix (Japan) says this is the first work on "FINAL FANTASY Complete-Repackaging-Onto-Portable-Device Project". Strange thing is that the official news on FF4A-JP (5th Oct.) was released three-week after the one on FF4A-USA (16th Sep.). Japanese FF fans wonder if FF5A and FF6A have enough quality because of two matters: FF4A has many bugs, and FF4A-JP ROM was leaked out from a webpage written in Chinese on 13th Dec. - two days before the official release day. |
OXY-S-REZ4(JPN) 15 Dec. 2005 Game Boy Micro 16,381 yen + tax |
You can play FF4A not only on GBA but also on Game Boy Micro. This limited set is a copy of FF4A and a GBM with a face plate designed by Yoshitaka Amano. It was a bloody race to preorder it in November- once an online store started preorder, "sold out" appeared 30 minutes later! (And Yahoo! Auction WAS terrable. 20,000 yen or more expensive...) It became much easier to preorder / get it in December 2005. Seems that Square Enix desided to make more copy. |
There're some FF IV emulator versions.
If you'd like to play, you need the SNES (or WSC) emulator software and the game software. But downloading softwares what you didn't buy is violation of the copyright.
There're some versions translated by FF IV fans. I heard the "J2E Translations" ver is popular in English-speaking area.
I found these languages (This list containts translation patch) :
I think there must be Chinese ver and Russian ver.
I can't tell you where you can get the softs, cos I didn't note the URLs of the download sites. But Google helps you to find... (SNIP)
